Returned and Reminiscing
Europe ➡️ Japan
June Book Club Pick
In case you missed last week’s podcast and newsletter, I announced that the winner of the poll for our June book would be Reservoir Bitches by Dahlia de la Cerda. Grab your copy at your local library or on my bookshop.org affiliate shop here.
I have been having a wretched reading month so far (I’ve been dnf’ing more books than I finish), but I have high hopes for this one. It centers on Mexican women confronting systemic violence and marginalization and was longlisted for the 2025 International Booker Prize.
Feminist Press—a small publishing house dedicated to promoting BIPOC voices and publishing feminist literature—played a pivotal role in bringing this short story collection to an international audience. Published on September 10, 2024, by the Feminist Press at the City University of New York, this edition marked de la Cerda's English-language debut.
Back to Reality
All good things must come to an end. I am now back in Japan after a much needed reset in Europe. Someone asked me, “So what did you discover about yourself on this trip?” More than anything, I rediscovered some things about myself. Returning home got me thinking—and thinking usually leads me to stream-of-conscious, meandering writing. If you are interested in reading a more polished version of my recent brain dump on travel and expat life, you can find that essay here.
Happy Reading!
